Line (ln) is a unit of length equal to 1⁄40 of an inch or 0.635 millimeters. Line is an obsolete unit of length in Britain and France, used until 1824 as a unit of 1⁄12 of an inch. Line can be used as an alternative to millimeter to measure tiny things, such as small insects.
Line in this sense is not to be confused with homonym ligne, which is 1⁄12 of an inch.
